Rainworld started business trading as "Green Line" in 1978 in small premises
in Wilson Street, Wodonga. In 1985, Rainworld was used as the trading name and the
business relocated to Beechworth Road, Wodonga.
Whilst predominately based on domestic
watering system installations, the business also completed large projects for the
Army at Latchford Barracks and the new Wodonga Country Club.
The business changed
hands in 1988 and again moved, this time to 52 High Street in Wodonga. These premises
had a larger yard, needed to accomodate the growing numbers of vehicles and machinery
and stock acquired through a steady growth phase.
In 1991, the business was advertised
for sale as the co-owners had decided to pursue different opportunities. Rainworld
became part of the Shepparton Irrigation organisation. From this point on, the business
changed focus, targeting the agricultural sector which had been serviced in the
past by "out of towners" and which could lead to a more even balance of installation
markets. Success in a new market came slowly but surely, and as a result the premises
in High Street became unworkable, not to mention life threatening when trying to
reverse into the main street of Wodonga. As a result, a new building at Reid Street
was selected and the move was made in 1993. In 1994, the opportunity for a buy out
became available to the current Management, Mick and Nancy.
The business again changed
hands on 17th October. The level of business immediately increased, due in part
to the long years of hard work by the staff but almost certainly because the company
was now locally owned again. Since 1994, Rainworld has captured a leading market
share in the viniculture, horticulture and pumping markets throughout North East
and Central Victoria and Southern New South Wales. Another important and developing
market has been the off stream disposal of treated waste water. The Company has
delivered 4 of the highest award winning disposal systems, being the Albury City
Council's Floodplain and Waterview facilities, Picton Waste Water Irrigation System
for Sydney Water and Dubbo wastewater reuse scheme.
In 2005, due to rapid expansion,
the Company again found itself in need of more space and the choice was made to
move to our present location in Osburn Street, Wodonga. In recent times Rainworld
Irrigation has also been concentrating on larger scale Civil works for local water
authorities and Councils, including the supply and installation of trunk water mains
and installation of pump stations. Future markets are identified in the changing
of flood irrigation culture, which will be part of legislature in the near future
as well as the design, supply and installation of pressurized pipelines to replace
the existing channel system Rainworld has a reputation for delivering a quality
product on time and on budget with minimal or no variations.
